Chapter 2: Four Pawed Rebel!

Ryno throws the Pokéball towards Tangela, hitting it against its Vines, but it bounces back and a Pokémon comes out of it.
A bright light comes out of the ball.
What could it be…

The bright light starts to shape into a Pokémon.
Ryno is waiting full of curiosity on what Pokémon it might be.
He quickly grabs his Pokédex as he sees it’s back.
“Yes this must be…Cubone!”

“When it thinks of its dead mother, it cries. Its crying makes the skull it wears rattle hollowly.”

“I knew there was something in this ball!” thinks Ryno while having a big smile on his face.
But then quickly gets back to reality because Tangela is starting to attack Cubone.
“Quickly Cubone dodge his tackle!” Ryno shouts.
Cubone nods and jumps in the air.
“Attack him with Bone Club!” Ryno shouts as he points his finger towards Tangela.
Cubone nods and bashes Tangela with his bone “Cubone!!” Cubone shouts.
Tangela bounces back, shakes his head and recovers.
Tangela starts to look angry and attacks with Vine whip.
“Look out!” Ryno shouts.
Cubone gets hit by Vine whip and falls on the ground.
“Cubone!” Ryno shouts as he runs over to Cubone and helps him up.
“C’mon little fellow, you can do it, show him what your made of!” He says as he looks into Cubone’s eyes.
Cubone nods and gets up, full of confidence.
“Alright Cubone, let’s do this! Scare him with Growl!” Ryno shouts.
Cubone starts to Growl hard.
Tangela gets scared and starts to shiver, causing it to do less damage.
“Great job Cubone, Headbutt!” Ryno shouts.
Cubone rushes towards Tangela, who is too scared to move and gets struck by Cubone’s headbutt.
The Pokémon bounces back hard.
Tangela struggles to get up but succeeds to.
He looks at Cubone with freight and starts to cry.
Tangela quickly flees into the forrest.

“Wow great job Cubone!” Ryno shouts as he heads over to Cubone.
Ryno picks him up and cuddles it.
Cubone laughs and smiles.
Few minutes later the two are walking again discussing their battle.
“Wow your pretty fast you know that?” compliments Ryno.
Cubone nods.
“Alright so, I’m Ryno and I guess your name is Cubone right?” He said with a hesitating laugh.
Cubone scratches it’s back with his bone.
“Oo-kay, so uh we are heading to Hakutai City. Where we going to battle the Gym leader for a badge, but first we need to catch some more Pokémon, oh and we also are going to contact my parents, but you probably already know them right?” Ryno says.
Cubone nods.
“Hehe, you aren’t really much of a talker right?” Ryno asks.
“Cubone-bone, bone Cubone bone.” Cubone says.
“Yeah you’re right; I probably wouldn’t be able to understand you.” Ryno replies.
Both stop walking…and look at each other.
“Did we just? Was that uh?” Ryno asks.
Cubone frowns and raises its shoulders saying “Cubone.”
“Nahh probably just coincidence.” Ryno says.
“Cuu-bone bone” Cubone agrees.
“They do say that Pokémon and Humans can, if they really have a bond, communicate with each other. Well at least that’s what they say.” Ryno explaines.
“Cu-bone” he replies, making it sound like he doesn’t really care much about that information.
“Yeah, I guess you don’t really care about that. Look at me, I’m talking too much.” Ryno says as he scratches his head.

Suddenly Ryno sees a group of people walking.
Ryno looks at the group of people who are passing by.
Two of them seem to be arguing, a girl with a white hat on and a boy with a red with black cap which happens to have a Pikachu on his shoulder. There is also a guy with brown spiky hair that’s trying calm the two down. He also seems to be at around the same age as Ryno.
Ryno isn’t sure about the age of the other two, but they do seem like they are at the age of 15-16.
The boy with the spiky looked at Ryno and gave him a smile but quickly returned to the two and tried calming them down. The other two were too busy and ignored Ryno.
“What an odd group that was huh? Ryno says to Cubone
Cubone nods.
After walking for a while, the two arrive at a little Police Kiosk, where they see Officer Jenny trying train her Growlithe, but she seems to have a lot of trouble with it, because the Growlith isn’t obeying her orders.
“C’mon Growlithe, do you’re flamethrower!” Jenny Shouts.
Growlithe shakes his head and doesn’t listen.
Jenny gets frustrated. “You are unbelievable Growlithe, from day one you haven’t been listening to me, what I did to you that made you disobeying my orders?” She asks.
Little did she know that Ryno and Cubone were standing against a tree for a couple of minutes analyzing her way of approaching Growlithe.
“Hey maybe it’s because Growlithe can’t do Flamethrower yet.” Ryno notes.
Jenny turns around while putting her hands on her waist. She has a grumpy look on her face. “And who might you be? You do know that stalking is against the law right?”  She asks.
“Ehehe, sorry about that” Ryno nervously apologizes. “I’m Ryno, and this is my Cubone, we just started with our Journey.” He says.
Jenny is not impressed by Ryno’s appearance. “You just started off and you are already start giving people tips on how to raise their Pokémon?” She asks.
“Well I did play the Master Game on my console, and nobody could defeat me, so I do know on what level a monster can do a certain attack, and since your Growlithe looks quite young, I’m guessing he might be too young to use the Flamethrower.” Ryno notes.
Growlithe walks over to Ryno with a smile on his face.
Ryno kneels down and looks at Growlithe. “See? I was right, this cute doggy isn’t that strong yet.” He says not knowing how strong Growlithe actually is.
Growlithe turns around his smile into a frown and looks angry.
Without warning Ryno, he does a flamethrower on his face.
“Ahhhh! It burns!” Ryno shouts.
Jenny laughs at Ryno. “Boy o Boy, games are different from real life. Surely they contain a lot of information, but every Pokémon is different and some might learn an attack faster.” She notes while laughing.
After a while the four are sitting on a couple of logs, after Ryno set up a camp.
“Sorry that I was being so grumpy to you.” Jenny apologizes.
“Oh that’s okay, I’m sorry I was being so cocky. Oh, and I’m sorry for underestimating you Growlithe.” Ryno apologizes.
“I guess it’s too late now though, since they are going to pick up Growlithe later today.” Jenny states with a frown on her face.

Ryno I shocked. “Why?!” He asks.
Jenny has a sad look on her face as she is carving circles in the ground with a stick. “Yesterday I was so frustrated that called the K-9 force to pick Growlithe up for some more boot camp. They are already on their way so I can’t be helped anymore. Other than that, our relationship can’t really be fixed anymore either, so I think this is best for the both of us.” She says.
Growlithe walks away from the group, goes to a little creek and sits down as he sees a 2 trainers doing a Pokémon battle across from it.
“See? It’s hopeless..” Jenny says.
“Well you two just have different personalities. Not every person can get along with anyone. So that pretty much goes for Human and Pokémon as well. What bothers me though is that Growlithe is going back to bootcamp. I reckon he already been through hell there, you want to let him go through it again?” Ryno asks.
Jenny sighs. “That true, I really feel bad for doing that, but there is no way I could take back what I did earlier.” She says.
“Well would you mind if I took Growlithe over from you?” Ryno asks.
Jenny is surprised. “What do you mean?” She asks.
“Well I would love to have a Growlithe, plus would make an excellent addition to my team.” Ryno explains.
“Uhh, that’s fine by me, but the K-9 squad might be arriving any time soon.” She says.

“True, but they can’t pick up Growlithe if he’s not here with you.” Ryno says with a wink.
“What are you trying to say, you want to fake a kidnap?” Jenny asks.
“Haha…no. I mean, nobody’s here, so you could say to the squad that you Growlithe ran away.”
Jenny hesitates. “Well….i don’t know.” She says.
“Well think about it. This would be you’re only way, from your side, to make up with Growlithe by showing that you do care for him, and you will show it by not sending him to boot camp.”
“Okay, let’s find him then!” Jenny agrees.
The three run off to find Growlithe.
A while later the three arrive at the creek where they see Growlithe sitting.
The three see Growlithe looking at the trainer battle.
They notice that Growlithe is shivering from adrenaline.
Ryno leans over to Jenny. “Now it makes sense. He just wants to be in battles. I guess he finds serving the law lame.”  He whispers.
Jenny slaps Ryno on the back of his head. “It’s not lame” She says with a pissed of voice.
“Ouch” Ryno says as he rubs the back of his head.
“However I do understand what you mean.” She says.
The three decide to run over to Growlithe.
Growlithe turns around and wonders what they are doing here.
Jenny comes over and kneels in front of Growlithe “Growlithe, now I understand. I saw you watching that battle, and you were burning inside from desire to battle. I want to release you and give you the opportunity to really act like a wild Pokémon, and be caught by a real trainer.”
Growlithe jumps on Jenny and licks her.
“And if you would like, I’d like to be the first that tries to catch you Growlithe… that is ofcourse if you would let me?” Ryno asks.

Growlithe starts to laugh.
“Heeey! What’s so funny? You think I won’t be able to catch you?” Ryno asks feeling slightly embarrassed because of the damage against his ego.
“I think he wants you to try him out.” Jenny says.
“Alright let’s do it then, Cubone show him what you are made of!”
“Cu-bone-bone!” Cubone shouts as he throws his bone club in the air and catching it with one hand.
Growlithe starts rushing towards Cubone and does Ember.
“Cubone, jump!”
Cubone  jumps in the airs as he feel the flames under his feet.
“Bone Club, now!” Ryno shouts as he points Growlithe’s way.
Cubone let’s gravity do its job by rushing down towards the ground.
Cubone uses the gravity to make his Bone Club attack more powerfull.
He rams his club on Growlithes head.
Growlithe growls out of pain, as he gets hit.
Growlith recovers and does Agility.
“Quickly Cubone, try to dodge his attacks”
Cubone is trying to dodge them, and succeeds a couple of times, but he does get hit also.
“Finish it, Head butt now!” Ryno shouts.
Cubone uses his head to spin Growlithe out of his Agility and then quickly Head butts him into the ribs causing him to fall on the ground.

“This is it!” Ryno quickly get’s a Pokéball out of his Duffelbag. Ryno starts to get nervous and almost drops the Pokéball out of his hands. “Wow” He quickly recovers and shouts. “Pokéball, now!”
The Pokéball flies and hits Growlithe on his head, causing the Pokéball to go open and suck Growlithe into the ball, making the button in the front glow red.
As Ryno’s fist is shaking out of adrenaline, the Pokéball starts to shake.
Officer Jenny is looking closely to see if Ryno succeeds in actually capturing Growlithe.
Suddenly the ball stops shaking, and the red glow disappears.
Ryno can’t believe it.
“You guys did it!” Jenny shouts.
“We did it!” Ryno jumps in the air out of joy.
Cubone remains calm but secretly is glad that he won this battle.
Jenny hears a truck coming.
“Quickly, you need to go now!” Jenny says while pushing them into the way of Hakutai City.
“That’s the direction you need to go to, now go!” she insists.
The two quickly say goodbye to Jenny and run away down the creek.
In the meanwhile, a Sergeant steps out of the truck.
“Where is he?” he asks.
“I don’t know. It ran away this morning after an argument.” She says.
The Sergeant sighs. “You do know that he’s now a Fugitive, right?”

Jenny is shocked “Fugitive?! Why!?” she asks.
“Growlithe has signed a contract with the K-9 sqaud. He agreed that he would serve as a law enforcer and leaving without permission will be seen desertion.  He is now a fugitive.”
Jenny can’t believe what she just heard.
Ryno on the other hand doesn’t have clue about what He and Growlithe just did.
And without a worry he walks with Cubone to Hakutai City, where they will battle for their first Badge.
Will they be experienced enough to defeat Natane from the Hakutai City Gym?
