Chapter 3: Sticky Situation!

9:30 PM

“Well tomorrow we will battle Natane!” Ryno say as he takes a bite from his evening meal.
Ryno , Cubone and Growlithe are sitting around a campfire eating their meals and talking about what happend earlier today.
Ryno decided to spend the night on Route 211 and in the morning go to Hakutai City, to battle Natane.
“It’s not too late, maybe if you two want, we can leave camp for about 2 hours and train some more. What do you say?” Ryno asks as he takes another bite from his meal.
Cubone and Growlithe both nod, and the three leave camp for some evening exercise.
Together they stayed out for 3 hours fighting various Pokémon, without resting in between.
Ryno notices that the communication between him and his Pokémon is exceptional.
There are even moments where Ryno is fighting 2 Pokémon at the same time.
“Growlithe, Flamethrower! Now!” Ryno shouts as he points towards the Venonat.
“Cubone quickly, dodge the attack and do Bone Club!” Ryno quickly says as he points his other finger to a Diglet.
Both attack at the same time.
Few minutes later the three are sitting down on the ground panting.
“I think this is about enough for today, huh guys? “ Ryno asks.
Cubone and Growlithe both nod.
And after resting a little they decide to go back to camp and get some sleep.

The next day, the three decide to have a good breakfast before making a 15 minute walk to Hakutai City.
After eating Cubone and Growlithe decide to help Ryno packing his bag.
“Thanks guys, I appreciate it.” Ryno says with a smile as he picks up a few paper wraps and throwing them into the campfire.
“All right Cubone and Growlithe, I’m gonna put you guys in your Pokéballs so you can rest up some more.
Cubone and Crowlithe nod.
Ryno points the Pokéballs into their direction and presses the button.
A red beam comes out of the Pokéballs catching the Pokémon and pulling it back into the ball.
Ryno puts the Pokéballs in the duffel bag and continues grabbing some paperwraps.
He puts on his shoes and jacket as he makes big sigh.
“Alright off to Hakutai City!” Ryno says.
“Yo!” Ryno hears and gets scared, because he didn’t hear anyone passing by.
Ryno turns around and sees a boy with a ranger outfit standing on the path.
“What’s up? You scared me a little there.” Ryno says with a hesitating laugh, as he pulls his backpack on his shoulders and
“I’m Victor, Hakutai City Ranger. We’ve had a report of a missing Growlithe, and I was wondering if you have seen it.”
Ryno heart skips a beat, because he knows what the ranger is talking about, never the less he decides to act like he doesn’t know anything about the situation.
“Nope, haven’t seen anything, I just started my Pokémon trip from Kannagi. On the way over I didn’t actually see anything. Well I did see a couple of Pokémon, but me and Cubone haven’t seen a Growlithe, so sorry I can’t help you there.”
“Wow, you just started your journey? You seem pretty old.” Victor notes.
Ryno frowns. “Thanks a lot dude.”
“Oh I’m sorry; I just don’t see a lot mature Trainers around this area. Well of course they do pass a round, but usually they are more towards the East, heading for the Sinnoh Leauge.”
Ryno nods. “When is the Sinnoh league going to start anyway?” he asks.
“Well, are you going to do you first attempt on getting a badge in Hakutai?” Victor asks.
“Yes.” Ryno answers as he walks over to Victor.
“Oh…then you might want to hurry because the League is starting in about 3 months and if you miss that you have to wait another year.” Victor explains.
“Damn! Looks like I really have to keep up the fast pace.” Ryno says as he scratches his head.
Victor nods. “Anyway, if you do see a Growlithe, please let me know, this is my card.”
Victor hands over his card.
Ryno reaches and grabs the card and takes a look at it.

“Uhm, I don’t have like a cell phone with me right now, I forgot to pack it. But I will give you my number also because in Hakutai, I’m going to transport my Phone.” Ryno explains.
Ryno who still is a little bit afraid that he might show any sign of suspicion, grabs a pen out of his pocket and his notebook. He tears a page of the notebook and writes down his number. After that he hands it over to Victor.
“There yah go.” Ryno says  
“Thanks,  well I’m going to go now.” Victor says as he sees Ryno putting his notebook back.
“Oh and I almost forgot to tell you, it is of the upmost importance that we get this Growlithe back, because technically he is a fugitive.” Victor notes with the intention to figure out if Ryno knows more.
Ryno coughs. “Alright, I’m on it.” He says trying to stay as calm as possible.
“You want a ride to Hakutai? I have a car here with me anyways.” Victor asks.
“Sure that would be great.” Ryno says.
Both run to the car.
Ryno throws his backpack in the backseat of the jeep and gets in.
Victor around and steps in the car aswell.
A few minutes later the two are riding to Hakutai.
“So you want me to drop you off at the Pokémon Center right?” Victor asks as he steps on his gas a little bit harder causing the car to go faster.
“Yes please, that would be awesome.” Ryno says.
“Soooo…Sinnoh League huh? There are some pretty big names coming to that tournament, did you know?” Victor asks.

“Yeah I’ve heard that some guys from overseas were coming as well to compete here.” Ryno says as he browses through his Pokédex.
“Correct, to name a couple: Toshiya, winner of the Silver Conference. Tetsuya: winner of the Ever Grande Conference. Satoshi: Top 8 of the Ever Grande Conference and winner of the Battle Frontier and Orange League. There is also Yoshi from our own beloved Sinnoh. He’s probably the underdog, but you should really not underestimate him.” Victor tells.

“So who, do you think, is going to win?” Ryno asks.
“Good question, all of these, except Yoshi have a pretty impressive background. The favorite this year would probably be Satoshi, because the last big tournaments he played, he won. I don’t know much about the rest though.. it’s really hard to tell.” Victor explains.
“Hopefully I’ll be able to participate.” Ryno says when he’s reading the Sinnoh Tournament info in his Pokédex.

Place: Sinnoh Pokémon League.
Connecting Routes: :  Route 223 (South) & Route 224 (East)
Transportation: :  Water/Air
Contestants: :  14/32 (Updated 15/10/07)

You either need to travel by Boat/Pokémon over water or in the air with you Flying Pokémon.
Rules of Participation:
- 8 Sinnoh Badges.
- Participators outside of Sinnoh, must have participated in their own regions tournament.
- Participators from Sinnoh, need to win the preliminaries in order to qualify for the tournament.
In the preliminaries you are allowed to use two Pokémon, the trainers decides which two. After that you will battle a series of trainers till there are 8 left.

“Alright here we are, this is the Pokémon Center.” Victor says as he turns of the car.
“Thanks, I’ll give you a ring whenever I hear about the Growlithe, all right?” Ryno says as he grabs his bag from the back seat.
“Sure, Good luck with Natane!” Victor says as he drives away.
Ryno quickly runs in the Pokémon Center.
“Welcome to the Pokémon Center, I’m Nurse Joy, how may I help you?” Joy asks.
“I just want to use the phone real quick and in the mean time heal my two Pokémon.” Ryno says as he puts the Luxury and Pokéball on the counter.
“The compu-phone is over there.” Nurse joy says as she points to the Computer with a microphone standing next to it.
Ryno walks over to the Compu-phone and speed dials Hakutai City Police Department.
“HCPD, With Je- Oh Ryno, it’s you!” Officer Jenny says.
“Yeah, I’m sure you also know about the whole Growlithe situation.” Ryno whispers.
Jenny looks around to see if anyone is around. “Look, I didn’t know this either, and I have no clue on how we could keep this a secret. They will found out sooner or later.” Jenny explains.
“I have an idea, but it’s only going to work if Growlithe wants to do it as well.” Ryno whispers as he looks around a little.
“What?” Jenny asks.
“Me and my family once went to a sightseeing trip in The Underground passage. Everything we found there, we could keep, and if I can remember correctly, my mother dug up a Fire stone.” Ryno tells.
“So you want to Evolve Growlithe into an Arcanine?” Jenny asks
“If Growlithe wants to, then yes.” Ryno says.
“Okay, well give me a call when it’s all done, all right?” Jenny says.
“Okay” Ryno says and presses on the disconnect button.
Ryno then dials the number of his parents.

“Oh, hello dear! How are you?” Mom says.
“I’m fine, thanks! I’m In Hakutai City right now, and I was wondering if you got transfer my cell phone over, oh and by the way can you give me dad?” Ryno asks.
“Sure dear, I’ll be right at it, you should receive it in a minute or so.” Mom says.
“Hey son, how are you?” Dad asks.
“I’m fine thanks! Hey listen, do you still have that Fire Stone mom dug up in Underground?” Ryno asks.
“Yeah, I have it in a box right next to me. Already starting with evolving huh? That’s fast.” Dad says while shrugging.
“Haha yeah, can you send it over please?” Ryno asks while scratching his head.
“Sure, no problem son.” Dad says.
“All right, thanks dad, I gotta go! I’ll call you back as soon as possible!” Says Ryno and without a chance for his dad to answer, he hung up the phone.

“He seemed to be in a rush..” Dad said against Mom.

Ryno took his firestone from the transporter and walked back to counter.
“Hi, your Pokémon are ready!” Joy says as she puts the balls on the counter.
“Thanks a lot!” Ryno says and runs out of the Pokémon Center.
Ryno runs off to quiet place in Hakutai City.
Few minutes later he calls out Growlithe.
“Growlithe come out!” Ryno says as he points his Pokéball forward.
“Grow-grow!” Growlithe says.
Ryno kneels and starts petting Growlithe.
“You know what this is about right?” Ryno says as he looks at Growlithe.
Growlithe looks at Ryno and then looks down.
“It’s okay, but in order to not get caught, we must use some drastic measures.” Ryno says and grabs the firestone out of his pocket and puts it on the ground.
Growlithe looks at it and becomes enthusiastic.
“Looks like you really want this, right?” Ryno asks, and smiles.
Growlithe comes closer to the stone and wants to put its nose on it, but then suddenly he and Ryno hear a voice.
“Hold it right there!”
Ryno turns around and sees Victor standing.
“I knew you were lying to me!” Victor shouts.
“Look I’m sorry but let me explain!” Ryno begs.
“Oh you better explain, before I call the cops!” Victor says with pissed off tone.
Ryno explains the story to Victor, in the hope he understands.
“Why didn’t you say this earlier?” Victor asks.
“Well I don’t know..” Ryno says as he looks refrains from looking at Victor.
“You know what needs to be done now right?” Victor says.
Suddenly a bright light shines behind the two, blinding both of them.
When the light disappeared, there is an Arcanine standing in front of Ryno looking at Victor with an angry face.
“Awesome…Arcanine looks so strong and cool.” Ryno thinks as he blinks his eyes.
“Wow wow wow, calm down. I’m not going to report you guys, I’m going to help you guys.” Victor says while holding his hands up.

“Calm down Aracanine” Ryno says as he puts his hand on his head.
Arcanine listens and sits down.
“All right, I’m going to have a talk with the HCPD. You can do whatever, if there is any problem, I will call you, all right?” And without the chance to reply, Victor ran away.
“Uhh, okay that was odd..” Ryno said to Arcanine.
Arcanine nods.
“Cubone come out and see what happened to Growlithe!” Ryno shouts as he throws the Pokéball in the air.
Cubone comes out and lands on Ryno’s shoulder.
“Bone-cubone-bone!” Cubone says.
As Ryno is smiling, Cubone feels a bit sad.
Sad, that it doesn’t look as strong as Arcanine.
But he won’t let it get to him.
He promised himself that he would fight even harder with the goal to become as strong as or even stronger than Arcanine.
After Ryno got his evolved Growlithe, they decide to head to Hakutai City gym to battle for their first badge.
Will they defeat Hatane?
